Located on a knoll in Muirfield Village Golf Club, S/WING is a permanent public sculpture with a monumental presence, drawing inspiration from the graceful motion of a bird in flight and the body mechanics of Jack Nicklaus’s iconic golf swing. Nicklaus founded and designed Muirfield Village Golf Club, giving the site a direct connection to his legacy. The final form was developed through sketching, digital modeling, and iterative studies that translated these overlapping motions into a unified sculptural gesture.

The work’s dialogue between avian movement and human dynamics connects the site’s historical context with its contemporary use. S/WING is an abstract reflection on birds as guides, messengers, and symbols of transition, with associations that resonate across regional Indigenous histories and Dublin’s Irish cultural identity. Green turf integrated into the sculpture’s form suggests that it rises from the land. The sculpture supports the Dublin Public Art Program’s mission to strengthen community identity while offering residents and visitors a place for reflection and inspiration.
