Fountain Detail

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr's " I Have a Dream" speech, visitors have their “DREAM" sent into the ether via the sculpture's abstracted hilltop.

Inspired by the words of the late Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech, Depeña created a meditative, sculptural experience by utilizing the idea of an abstracted ‘hilltop’ levitating over the water’s reflective surface. The resulting artwork is a dynamic, reflective experience for the Atlanta community encouraging individuals to metaphorically release their ‘Dream’ into the universe.

Inspired by King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, the sculpture embodies the metaphor of an abstract hilltop floating above the water’s surface becoming a conduit between the physical and ethereal realms.

The work is crafted from an intricate combination of metal, water, concrete, LED lighting, and sophisticated software.  It’s levitating form serves not only as a tribute to King’s vision but also as a medium through which visitors can engage with the concept of dreaming and aspiration.

Passing by the sculpture activates the LED modules that illuminate the structure and the pool below, casting the word “DREAM” into the sky. This innovative feature transforms “Dreamcaster” into a modern-day wishing well, where dreams are visually released into the universe.

The interaction is designed to be a personal and collective act, reflecting King’s ideals of freedom, equality, and the power of shared dreams. The lights, integrated along each arc of the sculpture, are not merely decorative elements but serve as an invitation to pause, reflect, and contribute dreams to the collective consciousness.
