During the week of Art Basel 2017, RGA Rocket approached Depeña to develop a temporary, immersive and spatial work. The installation took place in the historic warehouse space which is adjacent to the firm’s new office/ location near the Miami River, called the Miami River Armory. Inspired by the architecture, the history, and the Lamella ceiling’s engineering of the Miami River Armory, Depeña responded by installing a light based art installation that expressionistically reacts to the poetics of this particular space. After extensive computer modeling of the space and creating parametric “line art” algorithms, Depeña used the results as a launching point for intuitively “drawing” in 3d space with light. The result is a spatial experience that holds optical phenomena at the forefront of the global human experience.
